Manang

Saw Into the Wild last night. Very sad true story. Pretty good, though a few things I couldn't quite believe. We saw it in a tiny cow shed with a white tawp screen. To our delight we were served popcorn and tea half an hour in. Joy.

We had our day of rest yesterday to get used to the altitude. Sooo fab.  We went to a talk on altitude. Good news is the over 50s are less likely to suffer. Bad news is its because our brains are shrinking:(

A short 5 hrs today - another 500 m up for altitude. And now it's snowing, which freaks me out a little bit as I don't have waterproofs but it may melt with the sun tomorrow. There are some hard guys/on bikes who will carry them over the pass. WTF.

The top! 5,416 Wahey. ...

Trekking mates

We have hitched up with Sarah, notsarahalison  (she looks like a sarah) and Rita. Sarah has worked for a long time with the criminally insane and finds downhill a challenge.  Notsarahalison is a teacher and well anyway its like being in a episode of friends but way more hilarious.

Munro in a morning.

Dismal hotel last night. Only people there. Cold dinning room. too hot thalie which meant that after an 8hr walk i ate only  a little rice.... but it got better. atfer a perfectly good powder milk nescafe (see how ferral  i ve become) this mornig we set off at 6.30 am. Quick munro (with 12 kilos note!)before a Tibetan bread and honey stop at 11am. You lot are still asleep as I was reminded when my 5.40 emilliana torinni alarm sang in my pocket. The steep path steps up and dence woodland was very Scottish until you looked up or down which you don't really as you need to see where your feet are going.  Heavy dousing of snow covers the mountain tops. We walked some way with a korean boy carrying a very light pack ( you notice these things) who had lost his parents. We guess he was so stroppy they were hoping he d never catch up  and now he's wandering from guest house to guest house searching for them. Leg rash is fading thank you. Tibetan bread has arrived. Later. Ha! two jars of identical honey arrived but one in an old fruit jam jar. The menu said fruit jam. I asked for the jam but they pointed at the label and wiggled their head. Ha. It's all in the mind. We have forgiven jenarden for ladt nights hardship . We are in fact enjoying him so much we are planning for him to visit us in the huts.... oops Tracy and chuck have just pitched up despite us trying to either lag behind or sprint  ahead of them. Now i remember that last night might have been worse. They stayed by the river always on the hunt for a western Loo.  Other interesting facts1: I peed too close to a giant nettle and it caught my bum.
2. Steve is reading a book. 3. 900 new visitors passed through the villages each day last year. This year 100. We were told by a policeman this morning after he'd checked out our passes.
